cassie visits utah

Image
This past week, Zach and I got to have a visitor come + stay with us for a few days! It was awesome. Cassie Demsher and I have been friends since my senior year of high school. We met during Hairspray! and I am so very grateful to have her as my friend. Cassie got baptized a few weeks ago so it was extra cool for her to come out and see the Beehive state (A.K.A. the motherland)! The first day, my cousin Andrew + I picked up Cass from the airport and ate a nice hearty breakfast at Cracker Barrel! We spent the day hanging out with cousins in Salt Lake. Tuesday we took a nice long tour of BYU campus and did a bit of shopping. That night we went to the Real Salt Lake V.S. Seattle Sounders soccer game at Rio Tinto! It was such a great game! The next day consisted of IKEA, the Puppy Barn, movies and pizza. Thursday, we were sad to see Cassie off but had a wonderful day in SLC at Temple Square, City Creek + Shave Ice! It was so fun to have Cassie come and stay with us. We are excited to have

A week ago tomorrow, I ran my second half marathon EVER. Whaaat!! I know, I'm crazy. My training this time around was... lacking, to say the least. However, I finished in just under 2.5 hours so I was super happy with that (since I honestly thought it would take me 3). I run by myself so I just listened to music; shoutout to Billy Joel, Beyonce + One Direction for getting me through the rough spots! The night before our race, we went over to Z's parent's house for dinner (past a.k.a. carb central) and then stayed the night since Zach's mom, Bonnie (who is an amazing runner and has run 25 marathons + many, many half's), was also running. I wore my new Star Wars shirt for good luck + received my new pair of Nike's from my birthday in the mail so that was EXTRA luck! The race started at 6:00. Yes, SIX AM. Which meant that busses were leaving at 4:30 at the very latest. So up we got at 3:45 A.M., sleepily put on our clothes + shoes then left for the busses.

June 8th is easily one of my favorite days of the year. Why? BECAUSE IT'S MY BIRTHDAY HOORAY! When I was in middle/high school I was always a little sad because my birthday was over the summer and I didn't typically see my friends on this special day. Now, I have a husband who is stuck with my for forever sooo at least I will always have one person to celebrate with, right? Right. Since I am a (P.E. and) coaching major, I have to do an internship in the sport I want to coach so I will be doing one with Springville High School's volleyball program this upcoming fall with another intern from my program at BYU. The coaches are great + I am super excited! One thing I wasn't the most excited for, however, was the 8:30 A.M. mandatory district coaches training on my birthday. Boo. As luck would have it, we got there and found out we (the interns) didn't have to be there! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! So I went out to breakfast with some wonderful cousins of mine and then w

Home home home home!! I was SO excited to be able to go home for a week + spend some time with my family. It was weird without my Z + it made me really realize how much better he makes my life. But I also had a lot of fun! Right when I arrive into Oakland, my grandparents + mama picked me up and we made our way to Monterey for a little overnighter. While we were out, I found this sweet Darth Vader shirt and HAD to get it. Why? Star Wars is kind of Z's + my thing. I had never seen it and Zach just couldn't have that so our first date included watching the first 2 (chronologically) Star Wars movies. Ever since then, we've had an extra soft spot in our hearts for the classic movies + when I see Star Wars stuff, of course, I have to get it. Ask Z how many Star Wars things he has from me. Lots. ^^ So naturally I have to take a selfie to send Z ^^  We had such a fun little trip together and I feel so grateful to have these people as my family. I love them so muc

When school ended at the end of April, I made it a goal for myself to do fun things while I was on a break before Summer term started in June. We did lots of fun things before Zach's internship and then when he started going to work everyday (all day, pretty much) I started doing things by myself! I went to Riverside for a week and just got home from my week trip home to California. In between that time, my awesome sis-in-law + bro-in-law, Laurel + Phil, asked me if I wanted to accompany them on a short overnight trip down to the beautiful Bryce Canyon. And beautiful doesn't even begin to cover it. I had a blast riding backseat with my buddy Simon. We had laughing attacks with each other, made chomping noises at each other and just had fun in our little backseat world. Right when we got there, we caught a shuttle out to one of the hiking trails and began what would be one of the most beautiful hikes I have ever been on. Just absolutely gorgeous.
